Many booking systems, especially in healthcare and audiology, lack accessible options for users to have a streamlined experience when it comes to booking appointments. Tempo is a digital audiology appointment booking app to make booking audiology appointments more accessible and easier for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) individuals, their families, and caregivers. It addresses barriers such as phone-based scheduling, unfamiliarity with audiology, and language proficiency by offering clear, inclusive, and user-friendly resources to simplify and promote independence.

While booking my annual audiology appointment, I faced confusing navigation and was forced to phone call to book and update my information. This resulted in being an inaccessible option for someone who is Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) with phone anxiety. After speaking with others, I realized these barriers affect not only DHH individuals but also their families and caregivers.

The Problem:

Provide alternative, non-phone-based booking options to accommodate individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.

Function & Usability Goals:

Make audiology appointment details digestible across both platforms, using universal, simple language and visual cues

Simplify the booking process, minimizes cognitive load, and enables users to quickly schedule their audiology appointments.

Use accessible visual design elements to ensure easy use by individuals of all ages and abilities, meeting accessibility standards.
